National League high-flyers Boreham Wood ease to win against Crawley

National League side Boreham Wood reached the second round of the FA Cup with a 3-0 win over League Two strugglers Crawley.

Matt Rush and Zak Brunt gave the hosts a two-goal lead in the early stages, with Abdul Abdulmalik adding a third during the second half.

Crawley’s Ryan Loft was sent off for violent conduct in first-half stoppage time, adding to a miserable day for the Red Devils.

This match was just the second ever competitive meeting between the two sides, who had only previously met in the FA Trophy in 2006.

Boreham Wood made a fast start to the game and opened the scoring after 10 minutes. Brunt’s through pass released Rush and the Wood’s top scorer beat goalkeeper Jojo Wollacott.

The home side doubled their lead from the penalty spot five minutes later. Dion Conroy’s foul on Brunt was deemed to have been inside the area and Brunt beat Wollacott from 12 yards.

A miserable first half for Crawley got worse when Loft was shown a straight red card.

Boreham Wood grabbed a third in the 72nd minute when Abdulmalik curled home a fine first-time strike from outside the box.
