Ruthless Barrow ended Spennymoor’s FA Cup dream with a 2-0 victory at Brewery Field.
Elliot Newby’s cheeky first-half opener up the Spennymoor slope set Andy Whing’s side on their way to the second round before substitute Kane Hemmings killed off any chance of a comeback after the break.
Defeat denied the National League North side a place in the second round for the first time in their history but Graeme Lee’s side had their chances to cause an upset against the side in 15th in League Two.
Barrow goalkeeper Wyll Stanway made an excellent one-handed save to deny Glen Taylor and full-back Olly Dyson’s finishing let him down when he powered into the area but slipped as he put his shot wide.
Newby though made no mistake in the 40th minute when he outsmarted Moors keeper Bobby Jones to apply a finish to Charlie McCann’s clever through ball with the outside of his left foot to score his third goal in six games.
Ben Whitfield should have ended the tie five minutes after the interval but shot wildly over and the home side went close through Taylor and Matt Dolan.
But just seven minutes after replacing Connor Mahoney, Hemmings tapped home Whitfield’s cross into an empty net for Barrow’s second.
