Salford see off Lincoln on penalties after late leveller

Daniel Udoh scored the decisive spot-kick as Salford beat Lincoln 4-2 on penalties after a dramatic 1-1 draw to book their place in the FA Cup second round.

The League Two hosts forced extra-time through Kelly N’Mai’s stoppage-time equaliser after the League One Imps had led since Erik Ring’s 26th-minute strike.

In the shoot-out, Lincoln’s Tom Bayliss struck the crossbar and Salford goalkeeper Mark Howard kept out Conor McGrandles’ effort before substitute Udoh sealed victory.

Lincoln went ahead when Ring forced his way through the Salford backline and finished into the bottom corner.

An attacking triple change from Karl Robinson in the 53rd minute almost paid dividends immediately when Udoh glanced a header narrowly wide from Kadeem Harris’ cross.

But the hosts had to wait until deep into stoppage time for N’Mai to slot home an equaliser.

Lincoln had Tendayi Darikwa sent off in extra-time after he was booked twice in six minutes, for dissent and then simulation.

Both teams missed big chances to win the tie at the death. Sent clean through on goal, Bayliss struck past the post before N’Mai curled over the bar with the goal at his mercy.

But N’Mai’s miss would not prove costly as Salford won the shoot-out.
