Michael Duff lauds Wycombe performance in win over Plymouth

Wycombe head coach Michael Duff felt his side ‘could have scored a lot more’ following their 2-0 home victory over Plymouth in the FA Cup first round.

A Cauley Woodrow double in the space of 12 second-half minutes put the Chairboys into round two for the third time in as many seasons after a game in which they dominated.

Wanderers ended with 18 shots on goal compared to Argyle’s four as the Pilgrims looked flat, timid and out of ideas.

Duff, who has now won six of his 10 games in charge since his arrival in September, said: “I thought we were good from minute one – possibly a little bit slow at times in the first half but we passed the ball well, moved the ball well and created a lot of chances.

“Our goals came from balls in the box as that caused panic from sustained pressure.

“Our football has been good in recent games as we have been penetrative.

“I didn’t want us to be entitled and think we’re better than what we are but from the first minute the players [based on how they played] didn’t think that.

“We could have scored a lot more than two goals.”

It is now four consecutive losses for Plymouth as the pressure begins to pile on manager Tom Cleverley.

Since taking over in the summer, he has lost 10 of his 19 games in charge, winning seven.

Cleverley said: “I’m disappointed with the performance as I wanted a reaction from the last three league games.

“The first-half performance was of a team focusing on keeping a clean sheet.

“In the second half, we started to play a bit more but shot ourselves in the foot.

“We didn’t feel confident enough and after the penalty went in we looked like a team that hasn’t picked up anything from losing positions this season.”
