Owen Lunt’s first senior goal for Crewe, a strike from Tommi O’Reilly and a late effort from Omar Bogle earned the Railwaymen a 3-1 win over Shrewsbury.
Lunt fired in a classy finish, only for Josh Ruffels to hit back for Salop before the break.
Aston Villa loanee O’Reilly struck soon after the interval with Bogle, in his first appearance of the season, sealing victory in stoppage time.
Will Brook pushed away Emre Tezgel’s header early on but the keeper was well beaten by Lunt, who found the far corner after being set up by Charlie Finney in the 21st minute.
An equally impressive strike from Ruffels saw the visitors draw level with the midfielder’s low drive beating keeper Tom Booth in the bottom corner from 25 yards after 29 minutes.
Tezgel arrowed a shot across goal and Brook had his body in the way of an effort from Calum Agius as Crewe offered the greater threat.
It was no surprise when O’Reilly restored Crewe’s advantage when latching onto a loose ball and finishing from an acute angle in the 56th minute.
Tezgel was guilty of some wayward finishing when volleying over from six yards out and then slicing another good chance wide.
But substitute Bogle showed some neat work to turn inside his man and find the far corner in added time.
