Ian Holloway hails Finley Munroe for late rocket as Swindon shoot down Tranmere

Ian Holloway hailed loanee left-back Finley Munroe after he scored a last-minute winner on his wrong foot in the dying seconds of a 2-1 win over Tranmere to hand Swindon their first victory in a month.

The Aston Villa star, who has been a revelation in his stint at the County Ground, got his first EFL strike to keep Town joint top after Ollie Palmer’s 74th-minute opener was nullified by Kristian Dennis’s 88th-minute leveller.

Holloway said of Munroe’s rocket: “Every one of my staff is trying to claim they took him for extra right-foot shooting.

“Well done, mate. If that’s your swinger, I need to see your left in full flow. I’m sure we will. He’s a wonderful lad. What a great strike.

“That’s talent, isn’t it? He’s just got an abundance of it and it’s about making him enjoy himself and believe in himself.

“I’m delighted he’s here. I think he feels like he’s a Swindon player, the way he loves it all.

“He did it right. He tried to attack, put a good ball in. It came back to him, he’s had one touch and thought, I’m going to shoot here.”

Early on Connor Ripley did well to save Connor Jennings’ hard strike from an acute angle from point-blank range.

Seconds before the break Joe Murphy reacted smartly to tip over a dipping Darren Oldaker free-kick.

Town opened the scoring with a quick counter when Palmer blasted home the rebound from Princewill Ehibhatiomhan’s effort.

Substitute James Ball nearly doubled the lead with a low volley but Murphy scrambled across just in time.

Rovers levelled after a weak clearance landed right in the path of Jayden Joseph, who struck a post with a fierce shot before Dennis followed up to slot home with two minutes of normal time left.

But Munroe had the last word with his fantastic effort from 20 yards.

Tranmere boss Andy Crosby was red-carded after a bust-up on the bench, with Rovers assistant manager Andy Parkinson refusing to be drawn on what led to the dismissal.

He said: “You see a lot of these games in League Two – it’s nip and tuck, and there’s nothing much in it.

“It’s disappointing obviously. We have come away from home, we didn’t play fantastically well. They’ve obviously done well in the league this season.

“And you’re a couple of minutes away from getting something and then the lad sticks in the top corner, you know, from 20 or 25 yards, on his weak foot.

“We can’t let it knock us down too much. We’ve got to get back up. We’ve got three home games coming up now and a chance to put it right.”

Rovers have just one win in 11 games.

Parkinson said: “You know, we’ve drawn probably too many games.

“We’d like to turn those draws into wins, and then it looks a whole lot different.”
