Andy Woodman demanded even more from his Bromley side as Nicke Kabamba’s late winner in a 2-1 victory over Barrow moved them up to fifth place in League Two.
Bromley took a first-half lead through Marcus Ifill but they were pegged back by Ben Whitfield’s strike, five minutes into the second half. However Kabamba had the last laugh with his winner two minutes from time.
Bromley manager Woodman said: “We changed a lot during the game. We first and foremost wanted to win the midfield battle which I though we did in the first half.
“Second half we conceded a sloppy goal by our standards and then Barrow started to pen us in and ask us some questions so I changed the shape two more times to throw caution to the wind and try to get the three points.”
He added: “I’m not in this league to just try and maybe get into the top seven, I have said from day one I want to get this club into League One.
“This year we can achieve something special and I will continue to demand from the squad that they too believe that we can get out of this league. Everyone at this club is ambitious to not rest on our laurels.”
The game took a long time to break into life but when it did it was a fantastic strike from Ifill to break the deadlock. The full-back curling a low effort beyond Wyll Stanway from 20 yards out.
Barrow equalised with their first shot on target five minutes after the restart. Bromley failed to clear their lines and Whitfield drilled in the loose ball from just outside the penalty area.
With their tails up, Josh Gordon headed narrowly wide for the Bluebirds, while at the other end Deji Elerewe headed Mitchell Pinnock’s free-kick wide.
Stanway then had to be at his best to deny both Will Hondermarck and Deji Elerewe as the Ravens ramped up the pressure.
However he could do nothing about Kabamba’s winner two minutes from time as Michael Cheek profited on a defensive mistake to set up Kabamba to slide the ball home.
Barrow manager Andy Whing said: “I’m really disappointed for the lads, I felt we didn’t deserve to lose.
“Second half we took the game to Bromley and asked them a lot of questions.
“First half we wasted it because there was nothing in the game, they didn’t do anything to hurt us and we defended really well.”
He added: “Ultimately a mistake has cost us but I can’t knock the effort from the lads. It’s our first defeat in eight games and we just dust ourselves down and go on another run.
“We picked up two more bad injuries today (Lewis) Shipley with a bad gash and Stanway with a possible concussion so we don’t seem to be getting much luck now.”
