Wimbledon’s winless run extended to six games after goalless draw with Mansfield

AFC Wimbledon’s run without a win was extended to six games after they were held to a 0-0 draw by Mansfield at The Cherry Red Records Stadium.

The point also saw the Stags bring their own four-game losing run to an end.

Lucas Akins was put through on goal by Louis Reed just 50 seconds into the game, but Nathan Bishop got down quickly to make a crucial early save.

Steve Seddon almost made the visitors pay when the ball fell to him on the left side of the penalty area, but his delightful volley crashed off the crossbar before going behind for a goal kick.

The away fans thought Ryan Sweeney had scored in the 21st minute after a melee in the box, but referee Elliot Bell judged that the defender had committed a foul in the build-up.

Ryan Johnson nodded Seddon’s corner just wide of the post as an entertaining first half drew to a close.

Neither side created much during a second half devoid of quality.

The visitors won three free-kicks on the edge of the Wimbledon box, but failed to generate any clear-cut chances.
