Stevenage and Burton managed to serve up four goals in a 2-2 League One draw – although the fixture took some time to warm up.
There was no need for Christmas cracker headlines in the first half, but there was at least a goal to note.
Tyrese Shade was found in acres of space after 22 minutes with Boro appealing in vain for an offside that would never come.
The Burton number 10 then took a breath and calmly fired low across Filip Marschall and into the far corner.
A change at the break was needed for Alex Revell’s lacklustre troops, and they were level within 52 seconds, Jamie Reid sliding the ball to the left of Bradley Collins in the Burton goal.
They were ahead on the hour too, half-time substitute Harvey White firing superbly across the keeper after a lovely dinked ball in behind the defence by Phoenix Patterson, with Burton’s Jack Armer seeming to get the final touch.
It seemed like the tide had turned but former Boro defender Terence Vancooten did exceptionally well to put in a cross from the right and a looping header from Jake Beesley brought the Brewers level for one final time.
