Old boys haunt Wigan as Blackpool’s resurgence continues

Blackpool continued their resurgence with a 2-0 victory in the early kick-off at north-west neighbours Wigan in League One.

Second-half goals from former Latics duo Ashley Fletcher and Dale Taylor made it three wins and a draw from struggling Blackpool’s last four games in all competitions – having previously gone five without a victory.

Wigan should have been ahead from their very first attack, only for former Blackpool defender Will Aimson to somehow head over the crossbar from close range.

But the Seasiders raised their game in the second period and, following the introduction off the bench of Taylor, were soon in complete charge.

Taylor had only been on the field for a matter of seconds when, in the 59th minute, he crossed for Fletcher to net from close range for his 13th of the season.

And Fletcher repaid the favour five minutes later when his cross was fired home by Taylor.

Wigan threw on five attacking players to try to muster a response.

But after they saw an effort from substitute Paul Mullin chalked off for offside, the closest they came was when James Carragher’s flick on fell for Mullin, who could only lash the ball well over the bar.
