Stevenage’s Alex Revell and Burton’s Gary Bowyer both disappointed not to win

Both Alex Revell of Stevenage and Burton’s Gary Bowyer felt their sides could have taken all three points after they played out a 2-2 draw in League One at Broadhall Way.

Tyrese Shade had given the Brewers the lead after 22 minutes and it was a deserved half-time advantage for the visitors.

But Boro equalised through Jamie Reid 52 seconds after the restart and were then ahead on the hour, Harvey White thumping in a beauty that went down as a Jack Armer own goal.

However, Burton were back on level terms again after 67 minutes when Jake Beesley looped in a header.

And although there were chances late on for both sides, neither could snatch the win.

Burton’s Bowyer said: “I’m disappointed we’ve only taken a point. We were outstanding in the first half and could have been out of sight but we weren’t.

“The players were brilliant at half-time though, in terms of what they were saying and what needed to be done, and then they went out and did the opposite for 20 minutes and we got rattled.

“But after that, they stepped up and these players keep stepping up for us.

“But what I’ve just challenged them to do is don’t be happy coming to a team that’s now third in the league as we speak and taking a point.

“That’s not that mentality I want, and that’s what I want within the whole football club, not just the team.

“They came good at the end and (Julian Larsson) is inches away at the end from giving us a win I would have said we deserved.”

It was a similar feeling for Revell after fighting back and getting in front.

“First half wasn’t good enough in terms of intensity,” said the Boro boss. We lacked that and probably deservedly went in 1-0 down.

“But we came out much better in the second half – much, much more like us, and gave ourselves a fantastic opportunity to take three points.

“But we conceded a sloppy goal from our point of view to bring the game level.

“We wanted to build momentum after last weekend’s win at Stockport and we feel we’ve missed out on maximum points here.

“You have to earn the right to win games and we didn’t earn enough of that right in the first half. It wasn’t us, it was lacklustre for whatever reason.

“We moved the ball well in the second half and were strong. I didn’t really feel threatened.

“But we know they want to cross the ball, they’ve got a threat in the box, and we didn’t deal with that and ultimately, we got punished.

“It’s another point on the board but we’re disappointed not to take all three.”
