Leo Castledine scored a brace as Huddersfield kept the pressure on the League One top six and piled yet more misery on bottom side Port Vale with a comprehensive 5-0 victory at Accu Stadium.
Chelsea loanee Castledine opened the scoring just five minutes into the game, running at the Vale defence before calmly finishing to the bottom corner.
The hosts doubled their advantage 10 minutes later as captain Ryan Ledson claimed his first goal for the club by meeting Marcus Harness’ crossed free-kick with a volleyed back heel into the bottom corner.
The one way traffic continued and Bojan Radulovic made it three by tapping home the rebound after Lynden Gooch had a shot saved from just outside the box.
Alfie May extended the rout just after the break, finding the bottom corner off Sean Roughan’s lay-off at the end of a Huddersfield counter-attack.
Castledine then completed his double to take his recent goalscoring record to seven in seven appearances, curling a left-footed strike into the top corner off Radulovic’s exquisite back-heeled return pass.
