Johnnie Jackson to keep pushing AFC Wimbledon players after ending winless run

Boss Johnnie Jackson admitted he pushed his AFC Wimbledon goalscoring heroes to achieve more in games after they ran out 3-1 winners at Leyton Orient.

An own goal, a Myles Hippolyte effort and a Marcus Browne free-kick gave the south Londoners a deserved win – their first in the league since October 18 at Plymouth.

Two of the three strikes were provided by Steve Seddon and Jackson revealed he demanded more contributions from his players.

He said “Seddon was excellent in the framework of a great team performance, he’s got great quality on his left foot.

“I’ve been on at him for better quality in some previous games, he could have done better when he gets in the moments.

“Hippolyte is another one I’m on at a lot. Sometimes he gets annoyed at me because of that as I want him to get in the box and score goals.

“Browne is another one who I want to do more.”

Orient started brighter and took the lead after just six minutes when Zech Obiero found Dom Ballard in space and he fired low and under goalkeeper Nathan Bishop.

The visitors picked up the pace after going behind and equalised after 24 minutes. Steve Seddon crossed in deep for Alistair Smith, who forced Demetri Mitchell to flick past keeper Killian Cahill.

Wimbledon took a 69th-minute lead when another Seddon deep cross found Hippolyte at the back post and he connected first time to direct past Cahill.

The three points were sealed for the south London side as Browne floated in a free-kick from the edge of the area after 86 minutes to end a nine-game winless run in the league.

Leyton Orient head coach Richie Wellens admitted his under-strength side needs further boosting, but revealed there will be some departures this month.

He said: “We’re threadbare – I’m not making excuses with this squad, but with this group of players that are fit and available we’re bang in trouble.

“We need people back and fit and we need new signings. We’re at a crossroads, we know we’ve got two or three permanent players that we know are going to leave.

“We’ve got two or three loan players who know they’re going to go back, so I don’t think the culture of the squad is what it could be. We need to nip it in the bud as soon as possible.

“The problem is I’ve got two or three players who I can’t put in the matchday squad. It’s my ultimate responsibility to get the best out of the players we have.”
