Debutant Ricardo Rees made an instant impression at Forest Green as his second-half double saw Rovers come from behind to beat Halifax 2-1 and move up to third in the National League.
Rees had already hit the post for the hosts when Halifax took the lead in first-half stoppage time with Will Hugill tucking away after being played in by Jay Turner-Cooke.
But Rees, who joined from Merthyr Town on New Year’s Eve, levelled in the 67th minute, taking advantage when Halifax failed to clear their lines.
He had already gone close to scoring again when he put Rovers in front in the 78th minute with a fine finish from Tom Knowles’ assists.
There was still time for Rees to hit the post again late on before Forest Green held on for the win, with Turner-Cooke unable to take a late chance for the visitors.
