Manager Andy Woodman felt his Bromley side deserved to beat Chesterfield as he believed they were “by far the best team” in their goalless League Two draw at the SMH Group Stadium.
Substitute Nicke Kabamba had a great chance to win it for the visitors a minute from time when he took a penalty – awarded after Dylan Duffy handled the ball in the area – but goalkeeper Zach Hemming made a good save low to his left.
Chesterfield had a number of chances to score with substitute Freddie Ladapo clipping the outside of a post after seeing his initial effort saved.
Woodman said: “It’s a tough place to come, isn’t it? We’ve known that over the years. It’s a big club in this league.
“They’ve got riches that we can only dream of and I think they’ve signed six players in this window, so it’s always going to be tough, but I thought we were by far the best team out there today.
“The keeper has made a good save, but if he keeps going the other way, it’s a brilliant penalty.
“Nicke shouldn’t have his head down at all because we’ve been in debt to Nicke for getting us out of a few situations before, so that’s the joys of a striker.
“Credit to the keeper, he guessed the right way and made a good save. It was in the corner and he had to attack it on the chin.
“We should have had all the points, but we haven’t. We’ve got a clean sheet and we roll on again.
“I thought we were brilliant today. I thought we were solid. I thought some of our build-up play in the right areas was fantastic. We just couldn’t get the breakthrough today – and another day, we will.”
First-team coach Gary Roberts felt Chesterfield did well to quell the “aggressive” threat posed by their table-topping opponents.
Roberts said: “I thought the performance was OK, especially against the league leaders. We’ve worked all week on how we break Bromley down and how we stop Bromley.
“For 99 per cent of the time, we dealt with them really well. I thought we defended our box superbly well.
“They were aggressive, probably a little bit more aggressive from the press. Stopped us from building as we’d like, which was fair play to them.
“I thought with the chances we had, we could have scored one, maybe two goals.”
Commenting on the penalty, Roberts added: “Dylan thought it was going in, but it wasn’t going in when we watched it back. But it’s a handball, the referee got it spot on.
“Zach Hemming again, a last-minute saver, brilliant. He must work so hard on the penalties from opposition strikers as well, another brilliant save. It’s kept us in the game again.”
