Ryan Graydon scored the only goal as Salford climbed to second in League Two with a battling 1-0 win over struggling Bristol Rovers.
The hosts began the game on the front foot and went close to opening the scoring after five minutes when Kelly N’mai blazed over the bar.
Bristol Rovers failed to heed the early warning and fell behind three minutes later when Graydon coolly lifted the ball over onrushing goalkeeper Brad Young to give Salford a deserved lead.
But the Irish striker missed a glorious chance to double Salford’s advantage midway through the half, firing at Young from close range with the goal at his mercy.
Winger Shaqai Forde rifled a fierce drive over the bar before Isaac Hutchinson struck tamely at Salford goalkeeper Matthew Young as the away side gained a foothold.
Kallum Cesay forced Young into a diving save with a powerful shot before Graydon headed over the bar from Jorge Grant’s corner as Salford threatened in a second half short of clear-cut chances.
Luke Garbutt forced Young into a smart diving save late on but Karl Robinson’s men ran out victorious.
