Martin Sherif snatches last-gasp point for struggling Port Vale against Reading.

Martin Sherif scored a dramatic equaliser with the last kick of the game as basement boys Port Vale rescued a 1-1 draw against Reading.

The in-form Royals looked to be heading for a comfortable 1-0 win after a lacklustre display from Vale.

However, the struggling hosts snatched an unlikely point after Sherif smashed home six minutes into added time.

Kadan Young saw a shot saved before Paudie O’Connor headed wide during a good start from Reading.

George Hall had a shot cleared off the line after a Vale corner caused bother in the 16th minute.

Port Vale goalkeeper Joe Gauci turned a Young shot away as Reading began to up the pressure.

They got their reward when Wing put them in front from the penalty spot after 39 minutes when Gauci fouled Young.

Reading keeper Joel Pereira made an excellent save to tip away Funso Ojo’s curler in the 54th minute.

Jordan Lawrence-Gabriel had a deflected shot saved in stoppage time before Connor Hall headed the resulting corner wide for the hosts.

Sherif had the last word, though, when he hammered home Ethon Archer’s pass.
