Shrewsbury keep winning run going against Accrington

Shrewsbury made it four successive wins under new boss Gavin Cowan with a 2-0 victory over Accrington.

The Shrews struck in both halves against a depleted Stanley, who could only name five substitutes due to suspensions and injuries.

Town enjoyed a dream start when, after 30 seconds, Iwan Morgan got the ball on the left, weaved his way to the edge of the area and fired low into the net.

Mid-table Stanley then had a flurry of chances, Matthew Cox keeping out Shaun Whalley and Alex Henderson while Freddie Sass headed over.

But Shrewsbury continued to press, another Morgan long-range strike kept out by Ollie Wright.

Cox denied Isaac Heath and Sass before the end of the half as Stanley looked for an equaliser.

Shrewsbury celebrated a second on 48 minutes when Mal Benning’s free-kick bounced in the area and Luca Hoole headed home at the far post.

Stanley, who had four wins in their last five games, kept pressing with Farrend Rawson heading over the bar while Josh Ruffels came close to a third near the end.
