Rotherham boost survival hopes with win over Plymouth

Rotherham gave their survival hopes a boost with a 1-0 win over Plymouth.

The Millers got off to a flying start on seven minutes when Dru Yearwood’s shot was diverted in smartly by Joe Rafferty.

That goal and a stern second-half defensive display ensured an end to Rotherham’s four-game losing streak and eased some of the pressure on manager Matt Hamshaw.

The Millers could have gone two up twice before the break when Sam Nombe broke through and had his shot saved one-on-one.

Zak Jules then almost netted with his first touch as the substitute rattled the bar with a header and then the rebound from Nombe was kept out by Luca Ashby-Hammond.

Plymouth frontman Bim Pepple lofted over a good chance in the second half as Argyle pushed to get level.

Rotherham could have made the win more comfortable when Reece James’s cross was met by Dan Gore but he poked just off target and Harry Gray fired wide twice.

Nombe also headed into the side netting in added time.
