Andy Woodman fumes over penalty decision as Bromley drop more points

Andy Woodman expressed his frustration as his Bromley side were forced to settle for a point against Oldham.

It was the League Two leaders’ fourth draw in five games, leaving second-placed Cambridge five points behind with a game in hand, while striker Michael Cheek was forced off in the first half through injury.

And Woodman felt it was a missed opportunity for his team, though claimed his side should have had a late penalty for an apparent handball as they pushed for a winner.

Bromley manager Woodman said: “We had a clear penalty denied at the death and I am upset with why that wasn’t given.

“Oldham were a tough team and that’s their fourth clean sheet on the spin. They pushed us and they have the toughest defence in the league for a reason.

“We made changes in the second half to try and adapt to Michael Cheek’s injury as well as bring some width to the game and stretch them a bit.

“The subs gave us something, but I am smarting about the penalty decision, we aren’t getting the margins at the moment and that penalty decision was another one that hasn’t gone our way.

“We go to Grimsby on Saturday and we know it will be another tough game but we need the margins to go our way.”

Oldham manager Micky Mellon claimed his side deserved more from their trip south as their three-match winning run came to an end.

“I’m disappointed,” he said.

“We weren’t good enough to score but I thought we completely dominated both halves, won the individual battles and were better with the ball.

“We limited Bromley to little or nothing. To come to Bromley and play like that and not win leaves us feeling disappointed but there were also loads of positives about how we played.

“If we want to get to the top end of the league we have to be more clinical and ruthless in front of goal.

People will say it’s a good point but we could and should have had all three.

“We played very well and it tells me that we are more than a match for the top sides but we have to improve our consistency and we will be up there.”
