Stevenage leapfrog Reading into League One play-offs after Dan Kemp winner

Substitute Dan Kemp grabbed the only goal to give Stevenage a vital 1-0 win over Sky Bet League One play-off rivals Reading.

A ball into the box would not settle but as it bounced away to the right, the incoming Kemp drilled across Joel Pereira and into the corner with five minutes remaining.

It was a deserved success for the home side, who had seen a multitude of second-half chances go begging.

Matt Phillips fired over from the edge of the area, Carl Piergianni headed wide and Dan Phillips drilled another effort just wide of the top corner.

Matt Phillips then got on the end of a delicious Jamie Reid cross, but the ball arrived at his feet while he was in mid-stride and deflected over.

Reid had a header glanced across goal and wide before finding the net, but it was ruled out for offside.

The first half had been full-blooded but with the quality missing, neither side really coming too close to an opener.

The win though means Stevenage are back into the top six at the expense of the Royals.
