Carlisle boost chances of top-three finish with high-scoring win against Boston

Five second-half goals helped Carlisle boost their top-three aspirations with a 6-2 victory over 10-man Boston at Brunton Park in the Enterprise National League.

Regan Linney’s penalty, substitute Alex Lankshear’s own goal, David Ajiboye’s late double and Bevis Mugabi ensured the Cumbrians made it five unbeaten at home having trailed at half-time.

Luke Armstrong put Carlisle ahead in the 24th minute, reacting quickest to the loose ball, but Boston turned the game around with two quickfire strikes before the break from Jordy Hiwula-Mayifuila and Frankie Maguire.

Linney converted from the spot, after Maguire was sent off for handball, to notch his 15th league goal of the season just past the hour and Lankshear then diverted Linney’s cross into his own net with 18 minutes remaining.

Ajiboye bagged a brace in the final eight minutes and Mugabi added a sixth deep into stoppage time as Carlisle remain four points clear of Boreham Wood in fourth while Boston suffered just a second defeat in 11 games.
