Fleetwood pile misery on Crawley with Ched Evans winner

Ched Evans drilled in Fleetwood’s winner as they beat struggling Crawley 1-0 in League Two.

Evans struck just before the hour mark as the visitors saw their winless run stretch to 10 games to leave them a point clear of the relegation zone.

Fleetwood’s Shaun Rooney saw his early header saved by goalkeeper Jacob Chapman, who also denied Mark Helm.

Another Rooney header was then blocked with Finley Potter firing the rebound over.

Coming into the game without an away goal in five outings, Crawley rarely threatened. A shot from Dion Pereira, deflected wide, was as close as they came in the first half.

The deadlock was broken in the 57th minute when Ethan Ennis and Helm combined to tee up Evans, who found the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

Evans was denied a second by Chapman after a quick breakaway.

And Crawley’s race was run when substitute Lewis Richards looked like he had found the top corner with a brilliant long-range strike but Jay Lynch’s fingertips preserved Fleetwood’s lead.
