Mike Fondop bags a brace as Oldham continue run with win over Notts County

Oldham extended their impressive unbeaten run to 10 games with a 3-0 home win against 10-man Notts County that moved them to within a point of the League Two play-off places.

Goals from winger Kane Drummond in the fifth minute and a second-half double from striker Mike Fondop helped Micky Mellon’s side win a fifth straight game.

It was a night to remember for Oldham goalkeeper Matthew Hudson, who kept his 18th league clean sheet of the season to equal the club held jointly by Les Pogliacomi and Connor Ripley.

But it was a miserable one for the Magpies who would have gone third in the table with a win.

They fell behind early when Oldham broke quickly and Kai Payne played in Drummond to score.

And County were left facing an uphill battle when Oliver Norburn – in his second game back since being dismissed for throwing a boot away – was sent off after picking up a second booking in the 48th minute.

And Oldham were ruthless against 10 men, with Fondop scoring from the rebound after Payne was denied in the 56th minute before adding his sixth goal in nine games 13 minutes later after pouncing on a defensive error.
