Chesterfield strengthened their play-off hopes with a 1-0 home win against Cheltenham thanks to Will Dickson’s first-half strike.
Paul Cook’s side produced a strong performance and could have won by a bigger margin.
It was a slow start to the game as the Robins frustrated the home side until they broke the deadlock in the 25th minute.
Liam Mandeville’s whipped cross was emphatically volleyed home by Dickson from close range.
Tom Naylor almost doubled the lead moments later but his looped header bounced just wide of a post.
The second half began in a similar vein to the first, with the hosts dominating the ball without threatening in the final third.
Chesterfield somehow did not make it two when they struck the woodwork four times in the final 20 minutes, with Armando Dobra, Dilan Markanday and Dylan Duffy all seeing efforts cannon off an upright.
But despite the numerous missed chances, Chesterfield comfortably saw out a vital win in their promotion pursuit as Cheltenham dropped to 19th place.
