Bromley forward George Evans was overjoyed to score his first goal for the club in stoppage time as he secured a valuable point from a 2-2 draw with 10-man Barnet at the Hive.
Nicke Kabamba had put the Ravens ahead with a deflected strike before Phillip Chinedu’s left-footed effort found the net to level for the hosts.
Barnet were reduced to 10 men after captain Danny Collinge received a straight red for an off-the-ball incident with Omar Sowunmi. The home side then regained the lead from the penalty spot as Kabongo Tshimanga converted after being fouled by Kyle Cameron.
In the dying moments, 18-year-old Evans poked home the equaliser past Barnet goalkeeper Cieran Slicker, keeping Bromley within touching distance of promotion to Sky Bet League One.
“It’s every kid’s dream. Coming on to score my first professional goal is every kid’s feeling,” said Evans. “When Andy Woodman brought me on, it gave me confidence. When opportunities come, you’ve got to take them and I did.
“It’s been a stop-start season after an ACL injury and a loan spell, but I’ve worked hard to be around the squad. Scoring my first goal is just the start. We want to win the league and get another three points on Tuesday at home to Shrewsbury.
“The boys and the gaffer have been brilliant. Everyone’s close-knit so you never feel alone. The travelling fans were amazing, chanting my name at the end. It was the cherry on top – absolutely amazing.”
Barnet defender Adam Senior was left gutted after being sucker-punched by Evans’ last-gasp equaliser, a result that dented the Bees’ play-off hopes.
The side now sit 12th, four points behind seventh-placed Chesterfield, who have a game in hand.
“We are really disappointed in the way the game ended. It’s two points dropped, but we can’t be too down because we have to go again on Monday against Fleetwood,” said Senior.
“With the play-offs being tight, we are pushing through it and have got to get back to it over the weekend. We had around two to four chances where we could have made it three or four goals up to extend that belief, but it didn’t happen.
“We can’t be too down if we want to get into the play-offs. We all know that football can change so quickly, so anything can happen.
“The way we started the season, especially after the first three games, you would have said the five remaining games were like five cup finals for us. I will take it all day long. You can see with 10 men down everyone dug in. We’ve done that a lot this season, working all the way till the 90th minute to get a result. This is a strong group.”
