Crawley remain in relegation trouble after draw with Shrewsbury

Relegation-threatened Crawley were held to their first home goalless draw for three years in a stalemate with Shrewsbury.

The point moved Crawley two points clear of the drop zone with two games remaining, starting with a trip to Accrington next Saturday.

Crawley head coach Colin Kazim-Richards went into the clash insisting he had no survival points target in mind and saw his side quickly get on the front foot against their already-safe opponents.

Shrewsbury goalkeeper Matthew Cox, who had a spell on loan at Crawley last season, produced a smart save just after the half-hour mark in parrying a goal-bound shot from Harry Forster.

The Red Devils threatened shortly after the break when debutant Isaac Lee gave the ball away and a shot by Lewis Richards was saved by Cox with his legs.

Substitute George Lloyd should have put Shrewsbury ahead 15 minutes from time when he blazed over after a surging run by Iwan Morgan.

Cox later came to Shrewsbury’s rescue by parrying a low drive from substitute Ryan Loft.

Crawley ended the match pushing for a winner and Louie Watson fired against a post with Cox beaten six minutes from time.
