Michael Skubala said already-promoted Lincoln had “got the job done” after snatching a late point at Stevenage, even though their title celebrations had to be put on hold.
Boro, themselves needing a win to cement their sixth place, had twice taken the lead in the first half, Louis Thompson and Jamie Reid scoring either side of a Tendayi Darikwa equaliser.
And for a long period in the second half, the home side seemed on course for three points, until Rob Street struck in the first minute of stoppage time.
Lincoln’s unbeaten run, stretching back to November, was preserved and they now need just a point to secure the title.
“We got the job done,” said Skubala. “We knew this would be a tough place to come, they give nothing away, they don’t give many chances away.
“We started slow but we tweaked a few things at half-time and we said we don’t want to lose our run in this way.
“We wanted to be us and we want a team to really beat us. If they’re going to be so much better than us, then we’ll lose it in that way. We didn’t want to lose it in the way we were first half.
“But second half, we started to get on top of the game, started to get more territory and I’m just happy for the group and happy for the fans and happy to get another point for the club.
“We’ve got three more games to go (to get one more point).”
Lincoln’s first chance to secure the title comes at Doncaster on Tuesday. They are nine points clear of Cardiff, who secured promotion on Saturday.
“Yeah, it’s not done,” said Skubala. “Cardiff are a brilliant team and they can go and win every game, so we know we’ve got to win games.
“We need to recover, we need to be fresh and we need to go again.
“We’ll attack the game like we want to win it, like we’ve done in every game this season.
“And if we are us, we can beat any team in this league.”
Stevenage boss Alex Revell knows his side have three more games as well to seal a place in the top six, but he felt they deserved the victory.
He said: “That’s why they’re top, that’s why they’re going up, they keep going to the end but they scored off two mistakes and that’s it really.
“Every single one of our players deserves huge credit for the way they reacted to (the 5-1 loss at Bolton on Tuesday).
“This was a top performance and everything we asked of them. I saw real confidence and belief in them and we moved the ball well.
“Second half, yes, they had long balls going in but I didn’t really feel threatened at all. But if you make mistakes, you get punished by good teams.”
