Stevenage stay in control of play-off destiny by beating Bradford

Stevenage moved closer to securing a League One play-off place thanks to a 1-0 win at home to Barnsley.

Dan Kemp took advantage of a slack pass out of defence by the Tykes to run in on goal 22 minutes in, squeezing his shot between the diving Owen Goodman and the near post.

And although they should have scored many more, especially in the second half, they are still in command of their own destiny after ending the night in sixth place with a three-point lead over nearest pursuers Luton.

Jamie Reid had two glorious chances in the first half, Goodman producing a superb reflex stop to prevent the second one going in, and although a triple substitution at the break gave Barnsley some forward momentum, it ended up being all Boro from the hour mark.

Kemp twice had the ball in the net but both were ruled out for offside. He had another shot saved by Goodman, with the keeper also hanging on to a Louis Thompson effort.

Matt Phillips then sent a shot on the turn wide and Kemp should have scored in the final added minute but that too was squandered – not that any of the home fans cared one iota.
