Tipperary TD welcomes funding boost for six Premier County heritage sites
Tipperary TD Jackie Cahill has welcomed funding of more than €248,000 for six sites in the county from the Community Monuments Fund.
The Government has announced funding of €8m for 140 archaeological heritage projects throughout the country as part of the Department’s Community Monuments Fund for 2023. It represents an increase of 33% over last year’s allocation.
The aim of the fund is to preserve and promote local monuments and historical sites.
In Tipperary, a total of €248,155 has been allocated to seven projects have received funding. They are:
- €100,000 in funding for Kilnarath Church
- €75,605 in funding for Boolabaun Castle
- €29,520 in funding for Purcells Castle, Loughmore
- €28,832 in funding for Loughloher Castle/Tower House
- €12,915 in funding for the Monastic Site in Emly
- €8,487 in funding for Kilsheelan
- €1,283 in funding for the Graves of the Leinstermen.
Deputy Cahill said: “This funding is hugely important to local archaeological sites. This will go a huge way to preserving local monuments and historic sites which need ongoing care and maintenance.
"I'm delighted to see €100,000 being allocated to Kilnarath Church and €75,000 for Boolabaun Castle among the projects that will receive funding in the county under the fund's three streams.
“Ireland’s outstanding heritage must be protected and that’s exactly what Fianna Fáil is committed to doing.”
