First M7 average speed camera cases are brought before Nenagh District Court
The first court cases involving the average speed cameras on the M7 between Carrigatoher and Birdhill were heard at Nenagh District Court last Friday.
Before the cases could be heard, Supt Thomas Murphy of the Garda National Roads Policing Bureau outlined the legislation enacted to allow the cameras to operate and in what locations.
Eight cases were prosecuted, with a number of them struck out due to how the summonses were delivered or the system not allowing defendants to pay their fine.
The highest average speed was 149km/h, which attracted a fine of €200 from Judge Elizabeth MacGrath.
The lowest speed recorded was 129km/h and the driver was fined €150 by Judge MacGrath.
