In March 2023, Megan Armitage became the first ever Irish woman to win a UCI-ranked stage race at the Vuelta Extremadura Féminas
Megan Armitage is often seen cycling on the roads of north Tipperary where she is out training day and night. Now the Shinrone star, who grew up on the border of Offaly and Tipperary, will take to the biggest stage of all.
This Sunday she will become the first Irish cyclist to line out in the women’s Tour de France. She was confirmed for the race this week by her Arkéa Pro Cycling Team, and will work alongside five team-mates for success in the eight day event.
Her form has been exceptional this year as the Offaly native as she won the final stage and the overall classification in the Vuelta Extremadura Féminas in Spain.
She also took the fourth spot in the recent Grand Prix Féminin de Chambéry and was also the first Irish cyclist to win a UCI-ranked stage race at the Vuelta Extremadura Féminaslast year.
The eight day event which she will compete in next week starts with a flat 124 kilometre stage in Clermont Ferrand this Sunday.
We wish her well in her efforts.
