ALERT: Tipperary motorists warned that road linking Ballina and Birdhill is due to close

Motorists are being advised that the main Birdhill to Ballina road is due to close this Friday lunchtime and will remain closed for the next nine months.

The closure is allow for works on the new Shannon crossing linking Ballina with Killaloe.

Meanwhile, Tipperary County Council has been urged by Ballina's Cllr Phyll Bugler to ensure hedges and other vegetation along the R496 road which links Ballina to the old N7 be cut back while the road is closed.

The Ballina councillor told the July meeting of Nenagh Municipal District Council that the road will remain closed for nine months, resulting in a “massive amount” of traffic on the R496.

It is scheduled to reopen on May 3, 2024.
