Nathan Walsh, Specsavers Nenagh
It can take someone a lot of courage to be proactive about their hearing health. Nenagh’s own Nathan Walsh knows and understands the importance of prioritising your hearing health from his role as Audiologist at Specsavers Nenagh. In addition to his expertise training with Specsavers, Nathan’s background in sound and music technology makes for an ideal setting to best support the community for all their hearing health needs.
Nathan has been making waves in Specsavers Nenagh since joining as a hearcare assistant in 2019. With an education background in music and sound technology from The Technological University of the Shannon Midlands Midwest, Nathan also attended Queen Margaret’s University in 2022 where he obtained a Diploma in Hearing Aid Audiology. During this time, Nathan continued his role with Specsavers and progressed to the role as Audiologist later that year.
The Nenagh native has combined his passion for music and his expertise in audiology to help individuals protect and improve their hearing health in the community. This unique background in music allows Nathan to bring a fresh perspective to the field, particularly in understanding the intricate links between sound and hearing health. Nathan’s work at Specsavers Nenagh involves conducting comprehensive hearing assessments, fitting hearing aids, and providing personalised care to each patient.
‘Music has always been a big part of my life,’ says Nathan. ‘When I realised that I could use my love for music to help people protect their hearing, it was a natural fit. There's a misconception that only loud music can damage your hearing,’ explains Nathan. ‘But it's not just about volume. Frequency and duration also play a significant role. As a musician and an audiologist, I'm in a unique position to help people understand these risks and take steps to protect their hearing.’
Carol O’Neill, Audiology Director at Specsavers Nengah, says: ‘It is an honour to work alongside Nathan. I would like to thank Nathan for his commitment to creating a progressive working environment. His career journey in Specsavers Nenagh is an inspiration to his team members.’
Nathan’s commitment to his patients and his innovative approach to audiology have made him a valuable asset to Specsavers and the wider Nenagh community. His work serves as a reminder that maintaining good hearing health is crucial, and that with the right care and precautions, we can all continue to enjoy the sounds and music that we love. Nathan, along with his colleagues, have both hearing test and wax removal appointments available five days a week in Specsavers Nenagh.
