JK Brackens 2-8

Lorrha Rovers Gaels 0-9

Tommy Doyle, a famous Tipperary name of the past, made his history when the JK Bracken full forward scored 2-5 from frees to see the Mid Champions claim their first County U13C Championship when defeating Lorrha Rovers at rain-swept Holycross last Saturday.

In an action pact game the Bracken maestro scored his first eleven minutes in the second half to give his team a 1-6 to 0-6 lead, a lead never relinquished as their defence had to work overtime in keeping a gallant Rovers side from regaining the initivitiave only to see two James Cormican efforts denied by goalkeeper Adam Cleary who produced a string of match winning saves.

James Cormican’s three unanswered points gave Lorrha Rovers a 0-4 to 0-1 lead with twelve minutes gone. Con Cleary’s equalising free had answered Bobby Loughnane’s opening score. Doyle’s second came five minutes from the break, before Adam Hourigan’s free had 0-5 to 0-2 for Lorrha Rovers at switchover.

Two Doyle frees and Barney Murphy’s first had scores level 0-5 each after eight minutes of second-half action. Con Cleary’s free gave the North champions the lead before Barney Murphy levelled on nine minutes. Three minutes later came Doyle’s first goal, and he added another free a minute later as heavy rain threatened to spoil the day.

With goalkeeper Adam Cleary alert to danger, Adam Hourigan’s 65 and further points Tomas Leenane and Lorcan Kelly, we had the minimum between the teams heading up the straight. Cleary denied Cormican a second time. Brackens cleared the danger and, having reached the other end, they won a free which Doyle buried. Brackens 2-8 to 0-9 winners.
