Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following two separate fatal road crashes in county Tipperary over the weekend.

Both incidents occurred in the early hours of Sunday, 9 November 2025, leaving a man in his 40s and a woman, Carmel Hackett, in her 80s dead.

The first collision happened on the R445 at Birdhill. The car’s sole occupant, a man in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was taken to University Hospital Limerick, where a post-mortem examination will take place. The road has since reopened.

A second single-vehicle collision occurred in Toomevara, near Nenagh, sometime between midnight and 2.20am on Sunday. The sole occupant of that car, Carmel Hackett, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her body was removed to University Hospital Limerick for a post-mortem examination.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed either collision, or who has dash-cam footage, to come forward.
