Under the direction of Liam Ryan, the production promises to capture the quiet intensity and emotional depth of Rattigan’s work. Audiences can look forward to a thoughtful and compelling exploration of human vulnerability, love, and the struggle to keep going when all else seems lost.

Set in a modest London flat in the 1950s, The Deep Blue Sea centres on Hester Collyer, the wife of a distinguished High Court judge, who has left her marriage for Freddie Page, a former RAF pilot. As their passionate relationship begins to crumble, Hester faces a heart-wrenching choice between the safety of convention and the peril of a love that could destroy her.

Beneath the calm exterior of post-war life, Rattigan exposes a world of repressed emotion and private anguish. Over the course of a single day, the characters confront past mistakes, unspoken desires, and the limits of human endurance.

Terence Rattigan (1911–1977) was one of Britain’s foremost mid-20th century playwrights, celebrated for his finely crafted dramas exploring restraint, repression, and the cost of emotional honesty. The Deep Blue Sea, first staged at London’s Duchess Theatre on March 6, 1952, remains one of his most personal and enduring works, inspired in part by events from his own life.

Tickets are available through The Source Arts Centre website. Don’t miss this opportunity to experience a masterful portrayal of passion, despair, and resilience brought vividly to life by Thurles Drama Group. Book Here.
