Mary Street car park in Clonmel.
A Tipperary TD has called on Clonmel Borough District to make parking free in the town for the duration of the Christmas period.
Independent TD Mattie McGrath took to Instagram to share why he was asking for the council to introduce a free parking initiative for Christmas.
"I'm appealing to the Borough District Council to make parking free available immediately from the end of November and right through to the end of December, in an effort to attract shoppers into the town centre."

The TD went on to say that car parking prices drive people out of the town centre and many are parking for free in shopping areas outside of the town centre, which "isn't fair to store owners in the town", explained Deputy McGrath.
In the past Clonmel has offered free parking on Saturdays throughout December in council-owned car parks.
