Fine Gael councillor Declan Burgess, writing on his Facebook page, said he met the Minister during the visit to the church, which is undergoing extensive roof renovation works.

The restoration is being funded through the Government’s Built Heritage Investment Scheme and supported by what Cllr Burgess described as the generosity and commitment of the local community.

He added that the parish is deeply grateful for the continued backing it has received as efforts continue to preserve what he called an important part of local heritage. He also commended Fr Enda and the parish team for their work on the project.

Cllr Burgess said he also used the opportunity to raise biodiversity issues and discuss local heritage projects with the Minister.
