Tipperary county council delegation to meet with Fianna Fáil ministers in Leinster House

County council delegation to meet Fianna Fáil Ministers Darragh O'Brien and James Browne

Leinster House

The Fianna Fáil TD for North Tipperary and Northwest Kilkenny, Ryan O’Meara has organised for a delegation from Tipperary County Council to meet the Fianna Fáil Minister for Transport, Darragh O’Brien TD and the Fianna Fáil Minister for Housing and Local Government, James Browne TD in Leinster House today.

Deputy O’Meara organised this meeting at the request of the Fianna Fáil Team on Tipperary County Council, after discussions with Senator Imelda Goldsboro, Cllr JP O’Meara, and Cllr Micheál Anglim. The delegation is set to comprise the Chief Executive of Tipperary County Council, the Director of Services for Roads, Cathaoirleach John Carroll, and the five Municipal District Cathaoirligh.

The purpose of the meeting is to discuss increased funding for Tipperary County Council for roads and transportation, as well as general local authority funding.

Speaking on this today, Deputy O’Meara said: “I am pleased to have organised a senior delegation from Tipperary County Council to meet with both the Minister for Transport and the Minister for Housing and Local Government today in Leinster House.

“I have been working with both of my Fianna Fáil colleagues, Ministers Darragh O’Brien and James Browne, for a number of weeks now to secure this meeting, alongside my Oireachtas colleague Senator Imelda Goldsboro. I am particularly grateful that both ministers have arranged time in their busy schedules after the Cabinet Meeting today to meet with the Tipperary delegation.

“At the request of the Fianna Fáil team of Councillors on Tipperary County Council, I agreed to organise this meeting to discuss our need in Tipperary for an increased level of funding from central government for the County Council. Since Covid, and particularly the commencement of the illegal Russian invasion of Ukraine, we have seen inflation impacting on the Council’s ability to provide the level of services required under current funding models. The purpose of today’s meeting is to discuss a need for increased funding for Tipperary County Council to continue to strengthen and improve the services provided to the people of Tipperary.

“With the inclusion of the Thurles Bypass, the Thurles Inner Relief Road, the Latteragh realignment, and the N24 enhancement in the National Development Plan, the Fianna Fáil team in Tipperary want to see as much funding as possible delivered to Tipperary to advance these strategic projects.

“I look forward to a positive engagement today with my Fianna Fáil colleagues and I thank the representative delegation from Tipperary for taking the time to travel to Leinster House today for this important meeting.”
