Former Limerick senior footballer proposes to  former Miss Tipperary!

Seamus O’Carroll popped the question to long-term girlfriend Kirsty Downey in the sun-soaked surroundings of Dubai

A former Limerick county senior footballer has announced his engagement to his long-term partner - a former Miss Tipperary!

Seamus O’Carroll popped the question to girlfriend, the businesswoman and ladies footballer Kirsty Downey in the sun-soaked surroundings of Dubai, under the gaze of the world-famous Jumeirah Burj Al Arab Hotel - and she said yes!

A forward, Séamus took the relatively rare step of turning out for a club outside his home county, instead playing forward with Castleknock in Dublin, where he worked as a garda.

He initially played football with his boyhood side Cappagh in Limerick.

A talented hurler, he won an under-21 championship with Limerick in 2011 and was a national title winning handball player.

A long-serving member of the Limerick senior football panel, he was involved through the 2010s before stepping away from the senior team in 2022.

Seamus left the gardai in 2023, and now works as an inspector for the Health and Safety Authority.

Now back home in Limerick, he plays football with Cappagh and hurling with Croagh-Kilfinny.

His wife-to-be Kirsty hails from Cahir, and was Miss Tipperary in 2019. She is pictured below in 2020.

During that time, she fundraised for the Children’s Grief Centre in Limerick.

She has had a stellar career in the beauty industry, including a spell as one of the most senior figures at Charlotte Tilbury’s division in the Middle East. She was also an assistant manager at Brown Thomas’ flagship branch in Dublin’s Grafton Street.

She’s the founder and creative director at the Rental Reform, a luxury dress hiring company based in Adare, started in 2023.
