Carrick-on-Suir school's Under 19 boys basketball team wins South East title

Comeragh College's Under 19 boys basketball team were victorious over CBS Enniscorthy in the South East Final at the Mercy Secondary School in Waterford last Thursday, December 11

Team captain Jack Dowley lifted the South East trophy, presented by referee Keith Murphy, following a hard-fought win. Comeragh College secured the victory with a final score of 42-33.

Standout players included Jack Dowley, Jack Murray, Orestas Budgais, Jack Kennedy, Bartosz Jachim, Robin Cooke, Pablo Guitart, Eimhin O’Donnell, Scott Harte, Luke Walsh, Liam Dunne, Alvaro De Vincente, Zak Lyons, Jerry Chen, and Zeeshan Muhammad.

The starting five were Jack Murray, Jack Kennedy, Jack Dowley, Bartosz Jachim, and Orestas Budginas, with Robin Cooke and Pablo Guitart making key contributions off the bench.

The team’s triumphant return to Comeragh College was greeted with cheers and applause from staff and students, celebrating their outstanding performance.

Special congratulations to Ms. McCole and Ms. Grant, whose dedication in coaching the team every Tuesday and Thursday played a crucial role in this achievement.

With this win, the Under 19 boys now advance to the Munster Cup after the Christmas break.

Principal’s message

Comeragh College Principal Kevin Langton said the victories of the Under 19 Boys Basketball and Under 17 Hurling teams in the regional contests was a “fabulous” week for the school and its students.

He said the two sporting successes reflected the talent of their students and the work and co-operation between staff and students.

“We congratulate all the students involved on their successes in these two competitions which show their dedication and work in reaching this point,” he added.
