Profound sadness in westTipperary following the death of a  young man in a fatal road crash

Tipperary gardaí are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact them on 062 80670.


There is a sense of profound sadness throughout west  Tipperary following the loss of a local 24-year-old man in a road traffic accident.

The victim of the crash has been named locally as Nathan Walsh. He was the fourth young man to die on Tipperary roads in the space of five days.

The Bansha man died in a road traffic accident on the N24 between Tipperary Town and Bansha.

"He was a nice, quiet young man out in the working world and making his way in life. People are shocked by the terrible loss of life and a young man taken too soon. It is a terrible tragedy and I extend deepest sympathies to his family, extended family and his friends," said Cllr John O'Heney.

Gardaí said they and emergency services were alerted to the single-car collision on the N24 at Cordangan Cross at approximately 9:45pm on Wednesday evening.

The driver and sole occupant of the car, Nathan Walsh, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Tipperary gardaí are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact them on 062 80670.

The statement said: “The male driver and sole occupant, aged in his 20s, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
“His body was removed to Waterford University Hospital, where a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

“The road remains closed this morning pending a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Local diversions are in place.

“Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.

“Any road users, who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were traveling in the area around Tipperary Town and the Bansha Road between 9pm and 10pm are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.

“In particular, gardaí are interested in potential sightings of a 2005-registered grey Toyota Yaris during this period.”

The latest death on Premier County roads comes after two young men died in a horrific four-vehicle crash at Ballinunty, hours later, another man died in a separate crash in Clonmel.
