Pupils from primary schools across County Tipperary have been getting hands-on with nature this year thanks to a Schools’ Woodland and Wetland Education Project organised by the Killough Community Group, with support from ChangeX and Templetuohy Foods. The initiative, which ran throughout the past academic term, and hopes to continue into the future, introduced children to the rich natural heritage of Killough Hill Woods and the Cabragh Wetlands Nature Reserve, helping to foster curiosity, environmental awareness and a sense of responsibility for local ecosystems.

Among those taking part were pupils from St Kevin’s National School, Littleton. Teacher Ger Condon praised the experience following his class’s visit to Cabragh Wetlands.

“We had a brilliant day. The day itself was run so well, there were lots of engaging activities for the children to learn through and they got loads of time to discover and explore using their newfound knowledge,” he said. “They were fully engaged throughout and it just goes to show the importance of, and enjoyment they get from, local places like this. It is a remarkable facility to have on our doorstep and the children loved learning and exploring.”
