Playground in Tipperary vandalised as spiral pole now a serious safety hazard for children

A warning has been issued to parents following damage to equipment at the children’s playground along the River Ara walkway in Tipperary Town.

A post shared on the Tipp Town Facebook group highlighted the hazard: “notify parents that the spiral in the playground on the arra walkway is broken and that there is a part of the pole sticking up from the ground which is very dangerous.”

The Tipperary Town Tidy Towns group reported last week that a pole attached to a children’s play house was dislodged and moved onto the adjacent grass area.

The pole, which features a spiral for children to slide down, now poses a safety risk. The issue has been referred to Tipperary County Council for repair.

The playground area has faced ongoing problems with anti social behaviour.

The tarmac beside the children’s play area is frequently littered with broken glass from smashed bottles, while life rings along the river bank have been repeatedly stolen or thrown into the river or a nearby pond.
