James Browne, Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, revealed that 2,188 once-empty social homes across the country will welcome new residents in 2025, thanks to the Voids Programme, which empowers local authorities to transform empty houses into homes ready for new tenants. This initiative is a key part of the drive to tackle vacancy and bring neglected properties back to life. They are used for housing.

Between 2014 and 2025, 1,105 vacant social houses in the county have been revived for families, with a total investment of €15,633,000, or roughly €14,147 per home.
This year, Tipperary County Council is introducing a planned maintenance model for its social housing, promising quicker repairs, shorter vacancies, and speedier move-ins. This proactive approach keeps homes occupied and helps residents enjoy greater stability.
