RIP: Tributes paid to late Tipperary man remembered as a talented plumber and gentleman

There was widespread sadness in Thurles and the surrounding community following the death of Paddy Kennedy, Sarsfield Street, Thurles, who passed away peacefully on Monday, March 9, 2026, after a short illness.

Paddy died surrounded by his loving family and in the wonderful care of the staff of the Oak Ward at University Hospital Waterford.

Predeceased by his daughter Liz, brothers Michael and Declan, and sister Mary, Paddy will be deeply missed by his devoted family and a wide circle of relatives, neighbours and friends.

He is sadly mourned by his loving wife Catherine (née Ryan), daughter Nicola, sons John and Patrick, and his adored grandchildren Sarah, Josh, Ava, Tom, Jack, Harry, James, Cara and Molly.

He is also remembered with great affection by his son-in-law John Fahey, daughters-in-law Elaine and Nicola, brother Noel, sisters Ann, Deirdre, Geraldine and Celia, as well as his nephews, nieces, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and extended family.

Paddy reposed at Hugh Ryan’s Funeral Home, Slievenamon Road, Thurles, on Wednesday evening, March 11.

His funeral arrived at the Cathedral of the Assumption, Thurles, on Thursday morning, March 12, for Requiem Mass at 11am. Cremation is due to take place later today at the Island Crematorium, Cork, at 4pm.

Family flowers only are requested, with donations, if desired, to the Oak Ward at University Hospital Waterford.

Condolences:

Many tributes have been paid following Paddy’s passing, with those who knew him remembering him as a kind and generous man who made a lasting impression on those around him.

One person wrote: “It was with great sadness that I learnt of the death of Paddy Kennedy. Paddy and I are second cousins, our grandmothers were sisters, Margaret & Johanna Foley. I enjoyed many a football match with Michael & Declan. We grew up in Cathedral Street & Loughtagalla areas of Thurles.

We offer our sincerest sympathy to his wife,Catherine & family and to the extended Ryan, Kennedy, Spittle, Fitzgerald & Norton families on their sad loss. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam dilis.”

Another person said: “Deepest sympathy to Catherine & family on the sad passing of Paddy. Paddy was a true gentleman and a highly skilled professional. It was always such a pleasure to meet him and have a chat when he was doing a job. He will be sadly missed. May his gentle soul rest in eternal peace.”

Another tribute read: “Our deepest sympathies to Catherine and Family on Paddy’s passing.A gentleman and a wonderful talented plumber,who had the answer to every problem, always in good humour. May he rest in peace.”

Another person shared: “Our sincerest condolences to Catherine, Nicola, John, Patrick and all the extended Kennedy clan at this sad time.

I have only fond memories of Paddy when we were growing up and hanging out on Sarsfield St. in the 90s. He welcomed us all into your home daily with his warm smile and fun personality and always had time to stop and take interest in what we were up to. A true gentleman who will be missed by all the lives he touched. May he rest in peace.”

Another message said: “Deepest sympathies to Mrs Kennedy and all the family. So sorry for your loss. I worked with Liz in UCC and she always spoke so lovingly about her Dad. Cherish the memories and may they comfort you in the months ahead xx RIP Mr Kennedy.”

Another tribute added: “Our sincere condolences to you Catherine and your daughter n sons, grandchildren and extended family on the very sad passing of your beloved Paddy. A true gentleman, may his kind and gentle soul now rest in eternal peace. Thinking and praying for you all at this very sad time.”
