"This should be on in Croke Park"- Shane McGrath questions hurling league final location

Cork and Limerick are scheduled to meet at the Gaelic Grounds on Easter Sunday, 5 April. Prior to this, Clare and Dublin will compete in the Division 1B final.

Former Tipperary hurler Shane McGrath urges the GAA to bring the Allianz Hurling Division 1A and 1B finals to the iconic stage of Croke Park.

Cork and Limerick are scheduled to meet at the Gaelic Grounds on Easter Sunday, 5 April. Prior to this, Clare and Dublin will compete in the Division 1B final.

Since 2000, Croke Park has hosted the league final just three times. Semple Stadium and Páirc Uí Chaoimh have seen most of the action. Last year, Cork celebrated a long-awaited league title on their own turf after 27 years.

On this week's RTÉ GAA podcast, McGrath asked the GAA to move the finals to Croke Park, saying that fans from all four counties really want tickets.

"I think the Gaelic Grounds is the wrong call.

"This is ideal for Croke Park. Limerick and Cork will sell this out on their own (the Gaelic Grounds has a capacity just shy of 45,000). All the football league finals are on in Croke Park.

"Look what happened last year with the Offaly and Waterford supporters for the league final when it was Tipp and Cork in Páirc Uí Chaoimh.

"Only a small number of Offaly and Waterford supporters were able to attend. While ticket distribution may differ this year, Clare and Dublin fans are likely to show strong interest in attending."

"This should be on in Croke Park.

"Some may argue that travelling to Croke Park increases costs for supporters, but I believe many would be willing to attend regardless."
