A view of Gaelscoil Charraig na Siúire's new school building from Carrick-on-Suir's North Quay
The official opening of Gaelscoil Charraig na Siúire's new school premises on the site of Carrick-on-Suir's former St Joseph's College will take place at noon tomorrow (Friday, April 17).
The ceremony will take place 11 months after the school's students and staff moved into the state-of-the-art two-storey new school loated between Carrick's North Quay and N24 Clonmel Road.
The Irish language primary school was founded 28 years ago and resided for 25 of those years in temporary rented premises on the grounds of Carrick-on-Suir United FC.
After many years of planning, the green light to begin construction of the Gaelscoil's permanent home was given by the Government in late 2023.
Former Education Minister Norma Foley performed the official sod turning ceremony on the site in March, 2024 following demolition of the old St Joseph’s College buildings.
Building contractors ABM completed the project on schedule at the end of March 2025 and the keys were handed over to the school on April 30 last year.
The new school is located just a short distance from the Gaelscoil's first home on Greystone Street.
