Carrick-on-Suir councillor has reported to Tipperary County Council management of being “inundated” with representations from constituents living in rental properties who have been issued with Notices to Quit from landlords selling up.

Carrick-on-Suir Municipal District Cathaoirleach Cllr David Dunne highlighted a big increase in constituents contacting him trying to find new homes after being issued with these notices at the latest monthly meeting of the Carrick MD's councillors.

“I am after getting inundated with Notices to Quit (cases). They have gone through the roof,” the Sinn Féin councillor told the meeting in Carrick-on-Suir Town Hall.

Cllr Dunne pointed out one person who contacted him was notified by text that their landlord was selling the rental property they were living in.

“It's really stressing people,” he said as he requested updated figures on the number of Notice to Quit cases the council dealing with from tenants in receipt of the Rental Accommodation Scheme (RAS) and Housing Assistance Payment (HAP) supports.

Figures Housing Section Administrative Officer Gilliam Barry sent to Cllr Dunne show following the meeting show the council was notified of 18 Notice to Quit cases by RAS and HAP tenants in Carrick-on-Suir Municipal District in January and February.

While a significant number, it was slightly lower than the 21 NTQ cases notified to the Council over the same two months in 2025 and 19 NTQ cases it was notified of in those two months in 2024.
